Frankenstien Jesus

"I believe" says Rick Warren," the church is ready for what I call, a second reaffirmation. The Bible calls the church, the body of Christ. And for too long the church has had two hands and arms amputated, and it's just been a big mouth. And too often the church has been known for what it's against, rather than what it's for. And I hope to make a change in that along with a lot of another people. That we need to reattach the hands and arms, that's why I was in Africa."

Rick likes to mention that the church is the body of Christ and then say, for too long the hands and feet have been amputated” and we're just a big mouth, known more for what we're against."

Warren says he found himself praying, "God, would you use me to reattach the hands and the feet to the body of Christ, so that the whole church cares about the whole gospel in a whole new way—through the local church?"

"In the twenty first century, the church must reattach it's arms and it's legs."  - Rick Warren
P.E.A.C.E. Briefing for mission Agencies, Atlanta Georgia, Nov. 6-7 2006

What church is the local church?
No one knows for sure,
because any “local” church will do.

So, apparently (according to Rick)
God is using Rick
to put the arms and legs back on the body of Christ.
And, when he is done,
like a Frankenstein creature of sorts,
this new body of Christ will care about the
"whole gospel in a whole new way."

"The Bible calls the Church the Body of Christ, yet most churches today have their hands and their feet amputated. Most of our churches are just one big mouth! People know what we’re against, but they don’t know what we’re for. And we’re for helping the poor. When we do that, we’re investing in eternity."
A Purpose Driven Giving Plan by Rick Warren  10/15/2006

While saying that the church is meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world, Rick repeats his famous line,“it’s had its hands and feet amputated, and all we’ve been is a big mouth,”
Lord Save Us from Your Followers, a movie by Dan Merchant.

"I believe we’re on the verge of a second Reformation in the church. 500 years ago we had the first Reformation. It was about beliefs. This one is going to be about behavior. It’s not about what the church knows, it’s about what the church does....We need to reattach the hands and the feet to the body of Christ. About 50 years ago the hands and the feet got cut off, and all that’s left is a mouth. Evangelicals in particular are known more for what we talk about than what we do. A lot of times we’re known more for what we’re against than what we’re for. I intend to change that. So this second Reformation will be about being the church in the world. Reformations don’t happen overnight. They take fifty years. I can give twenty years to it. But that’s probably all I’ve got left in my life, is another twenty years. The next generation will be the Reformation generation. My goal is to train them, to prepare them to finish the task."- Rick Warren
Rick Warren Interview by Paul Grant (Urbana.org)

"The Bible calls the church the body of Christ. And, in my opinion, for about the last 50 years at least, the, the legs and the arms, and the hands, and the feet of the body of Christ have been amputated, and all that's left was a big mouth. We're better known at, at speaking than doing. And usually we're known more for what we're against than what we're for. "
