The Communists and Rick

Rick Warren's 40 Day of "Community" campaign, like his  many other campaigns, were made to sell with a specific target for sales... the church.  They became so popular that now, sometimes,  you can even get them "free".  The goal in marketing these "campaigns" was intentional, and the goal was to move the church into a NEW way of thinking.  It's wasn't always obvious, because, as Warren says, the Purpose Driven movement was "stealth."

Warren has "thanked" God in prayer for what he calls a “stealth movement flying beneath the radar that’s changing literally thousands of churches around the world.” He describes himself saying,  "I've been the stealth evangelist."  Stealth?  Really????  In a world where the heaven's declare the glory of God, and the skies proclaim the world of his hands,  is it likely that God's desire is for Christians ( or pastor's like Rick) to be "stealth?  No, it's not very likely. Do you put a lamp under a bushel?  (Matthew 5:15)  No. YOu pur it where it can be seen. However, Rick calls what he has done, a "stealth operation" and he's on a mission.  His intention is that of changing churches all over the world.

Part of the "stealth" behavior on the part of Pastor Rick is to change the very foundation n which the church  has been established. " Good-bye"  to simple faith in Jesus and "hello" to  purpose!

"Healthy churches are built on purpose! "
"Strong churches are built on Purpose!" ~ Rick Warren

"Nothing precedes purpose." ~ Rick Warren

(Readers might do well to examine, Matthew 16:18; John 15:5; and John 1:1)
Nothing precedes purpose?  ("In the beginning... Purpose"?)

It is part and parcel of the  paradigm shift implemented in  a "stealth operation" flying under the radar, and thus begins a whole new way of thinking for the "church."

"But the word “repentance” is a wonderful word—metanoia—which means in Greek “to change your mind.” Repentance is just changing the way we think about something by accepting the way God thinks about it. That’s all repentance is. The new words for repentance are “paradigm shift.”  ~Rick Warren
Nine Preaching Tips That Will Change Lives by Rick Warren, Sermon Centraal, Radicalis Conference, 2011

The Purpose Driven Church book cover  reads, " Rick Warren believes that in order for a church to be healthy it must become a purpose-driven church, built around the five New Testament purposes given to the church by Jesus." So incredibly popular, how could Rick be wrong when he says that you must do this if you want to be healthy?  And did you notice, if you do not then, then you are the opposite of "healthy," which is unhealthy, sick, or  diseased.

In case you think Rick's wrong, he has added that these are "the five New Testament purposes given to the church by Jesus."  If you are not on board with Rick, you will look to both believers who buy into the principles in his book, and those who have no idea what Jesus actually taught, as if you are not doing what Jesus said to do if you are not enthusiastic about being purpose driven.
Jesus was not stealth, and Rick's ideas, like his 40 Days "campaign" ideas didn't come from the Bible.
Rick learned how to do "campaigns" he says, from Douglas Hyde.
"You know, by- by-- by doing these, um, "campaigns.... I-I actually learned the idea of a  campaign, from the communists,  of all people.  Years ago, there was a book written, called, Dedication and Leadership.  It was written in the fifties, by the head of the Communist Party of England, who converted to Christ.  He actually became a Catholic.  And he wrote this book on what the Church could learn from the Communists... not about "doctrine"...but you know, we know our doctrine, but "what were some of the tools that they used to help win converts to Communism," and he wrote this book called Dedication and Leadership.  It is still in print, by, a Notre Dame Press.  It's not a very well-known book.... but it's Douglas Hyde--if you are a pastor and you want to pick it up..." ~ Rick Warren, Interview with George Wood, AGTV, March 2, 2009
Ir's also where he obtained his philosophy of "Purpose"
"In the book Dedication and Leadership by Douglas Hyde a former communist who became a
Christian (he was head of the communist party in England), he talks about the communists know
you attract people by requiring a big commitment and by offering a big goal to go for. The best-kept secret, I think, in motivation is that vision is a tremendous motivator. People are looking for something to give their lives to. That is the best-kept secret in the world. People are looking for a goal, for a purpose, for a vision, for a mission in life that makes their life meaningful and worthwhile. Anybody that comes along will attract people like that if they have vision."

He learned it, from all people, the communists!

On Hearing God

On the topic of hearing from God, the Bible says there needs to be one who will preach the Good News:   Romans 10:14
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

Interestingly, Rick's message is different.  In order to hear from God...its not about hearing... it's not about preaching.  It's bout your position.  You must, apparently, be subject to...Rick.
He tells readers,

"You must be positioned correctly
in order to hear God speak." -RickWarren.org december 2013

It's offered to you.... that if you listen to.... Rick, you can learn how to discern God’s voice.  This is something that is very , very important, because not being "discerning" and hearing God properly "can have eternal consequences."  If you are not discerning God's voice... it could have eternal.... eternal consequences.

(I wonder if he means you might go to hell?  This is interesting because it is through preaching that one hears God's good news of salvation. )

His website informs you that Rick wants you to be able to discern God's voice... but apparently you have to go through him.

"Pastor Rick wants you to know the difference and how to discern God’s voice, because it can have eternal consequences." -RickWarren.org

Rick will be the one to help you understand.  He will even tell you what it is that is preventing YOU from hearing God.   Pride (which is sin) and desire.  It is not just hearing, listening... thinging and reasoning.  No.  You cannot hear from God until you " REALLY REALLY" want to.

He says,
"But if you really want to hear from God — and what believer doesn't? — you have to understand what is keeping you from hearing from God."               The Three Mental Barriers to Hearing God’s Voice By Rick Warren, 12/3/2013

and,

" You’re not going to hear God unless you really, really want it."
                                                                                                                                                                                                                              -Rick Warren

"You need to get rid of the bitterness, fear, and pride that keep you from hearing God’s voice and living out his purpose for your life."
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    -Rick Warren

Bitterness, fear and pride is keeping you...
not only from hearing "God's voice" but is it keeping you from something else too. did you catch that? (Funny how he just kinda slipped that one in.)

Rick says,

“.... let go of your pride and stop trying to figure it out on your own. This is the key to opening your mind and heart so that you can hear from the Lord."      -Rick Warren

Opening your mind?
Could someone point Rick to 2 Corinthians 10:5?
...................."bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

Rick is really telling you to stop thinking for yourself. and listen to his wisdom, which he claims is from God, and to read his materials, which he says is inspired by God.  Meanwhile, back in the scriptures, in Isaiah 1:18...  God's word invites you to come and use your reason, to reason with God. Meanwhile Rick infers that he and he alone holds the key.  Stop thinking, stop figuring it out....

Strange isn't it.
Your thinking and reasoning for yourself would be called "pride" (if you arr not in line with Pastor Rick  "hearing from God AND living out your purpose for you life. "

Rick wants to speak into your life.  He wants you to get on his programs so he inserts little things when you least expect it and tells you to stop thinking for yourself and listen to what God had given him to give you.   Apparently, if you do not hang upon every word from Rick, you are ignoring God, because God "speaks" to Rick.... when he reads the psalms.  It as in reading a psalm that God gave Rick the inspiration for his book... the Purpose Driven Life.

Can't you hear?  When it comes to hearing God's voice AND living out your purpose.... you need Rick's God' inspired book.

"....out of that Psalm, God spoke to me and He said , the purpose of influence is to speak up for those who had no influence."-Rick Warren,
KBMI (Moody Bible) OPEN LINE PROGRAM,  October 7, 2005 with Host Wayne Shepherd

And about that book...Rick calls his own book a phenomena, "more than a message."
Rick claims to believe his success is all attributable to God's doing.... His book and meterials are, he believes, a message from God to the church.  Rick believes that his Purpose Driven Life is something special:

" It is more than just a message that God wants to get out to everyone (which is huge). I now also see that God is using this phenomena to expand the platform for us to mobilize thousands of local churches for global world missions through the PEACE plan.
-Rick Warren,
 Rick Warren's  PEACE PLAN LETTER , 2003

He is mobilizing churches to implement the P.E.A.C.E Plan.... Rick's Peace Plan, which is not the same as God's peace plan.

"But all this is not about us. God's intention is much bigger than the book. It's all about the global glory of God! We intend to leverage the attention that the Purpose Driven Life has garnered to bring about a whole new way of thinking and acting in the church"
-Rick Warren,
 Rick Warren's  PEACE PLAN LETTER , 2003
Out with the old, in with the new.
Out with justification by faith, in with justification by works,
Out with the Bible study and doctrine, in with a 40 day campaign of your own choosing.
Out with the title of pastor, in with a leader....or two

Out with figuring things out... thinking for yourself, in with being afraid to be different in a crowd.
Out with steadfastness and reliability, and in with "change."

"I hope and pray that your church won't miss out on this movement of God. I invite you to join us. We're waiting to partner with you on the journey of a lifetime!" - Rick Warren

Purpose Driven Church Book Endorsements

What does Ed YoungJack Hayford, Robert Schueller, Jerry Farwell, Leonard Sweet and Bill Bright all have in common? These men are "important" names in regards to the realm of Christianity, famous for their outlook on life and their ministries, doing well financially via the selling of their many books, but one other thing they have in common is that they all, along with 35 others, endorse Rick's 1995 book, the Purpose Driven Church!

It's the bandwagon approach to book sales..... Don't you want to be numbered with their ilk?
Do You Ever Feel Out-Numbered?

It's just more of Rick Warren's exponential thinking.... you know the bigger the number of people who endorse his book, the more important your book will seem.  Not only that, look what they say about this book!

"Every pastor must read this book! "
Must?
Every pastor must?
"Study this book carefully! Rick Warren knows how the Lord builds the church."
Pastors are already reading the bible.... they need Rick's book more?
How does Rick's book know more than the Bible about the way the Lord builds?
"If I could, I’d make it required reading for every seminary student!"

'Rick Warren is the architect for the church of the 21st century, and this is the blueprint!'
Rick... the great "architect?"

"This book is choc-o-bloc with ideas that are so practical and down-to-earth that any pastor who fails to correct his perspective on the church should probably leave the ministry"

If you are not on board with Rick, you should "leave the ministry."

"Rick Warren is the one all of us should listen to and learn from."
Did he really just say that?
Really?
(Move over Jesus, here comes Rick!)

"The Purpose-Driven Church philosophy changed my life and the life of our church"
What was it before and what was it after?
Usually people say these words about Jesus Christ.  Christian talk about being
moved out of darkness into light when they come to Christ... so in what way was this "changed?".

"If only I had been taught these principles when I was in seminary"

Hear Rick talk about his book here.
