"The Path Back To God"

"The Path Back To God was Rick's title for his first of this new year's daily devotional,  Daily Hope with Rick Warren.  And here Pastor Rick writes, (that is... if it is really Pastor Rick that actually comes up with this gimmicky stuff. who knows?) ..... He writes that there are four things you need do, if you want to get back to God.

"Four things?"  (You might ask.)

Yes , four.

Well, it says "four" but there's only three in his numerically bulleted list.

That's odd.... (you would think there's be four.)

That is strange! Maybe someone made a typo?

What is even stranger, (this is from a Biblical  perspective,) is that the "pastor" neglects to mention anything about Jesus as any of his "four" .. (or rather three,) things you "need to do" to "get back" to God.

And what are they? (According to Rick)

First, according to the devotionals, you need dissatisfaction. He says that you need to say,
“I don’t like this. I’m tired of being stressed out all the time. I’m tired of being frustrated all the time. I’m tired of being overworked all the time. I’m tired of feeling distant from God.”

Really?

(It is no wonder that the bible teaches Christians to be content in every circumstance, for dissatisfaction will have you listening to people like Rick. It's easy to be dissatisfied.

Then he quotes the Message novel, saying, "Jeremiah 29:13 says, “When you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed”"

What he quotes here is not a translation of the bible, it is a paraphrase,
one which makes God sound ike He's some salesman.
And one would think God was going to wait until you
"get serious" before you can find him.... meanwhile it was
while we were still sinners that Christ died for us.)

God made the first move toward us.

Secondly, according to the devotional, you need to "own up to your sin."
(Question: Why this isn't number one on the list?)

The bible says that sin separates us from God.  This is true and Rick mentions that, but then he diverts the conversation by saying that if you don't" feel" close to God, it is because you moved.  He says that once you "own up to your sin," you can have a right relationship with God.

Under number three, Rick says, you must offer yourself up to God.  He says "True transformation happens when your heart moves from self-centeredness to God centeredness." and then asks, " Are you there yet?"

There is no number four on his list.... and there is no mention of Jesus.  /he does add,
"True transformation does not happen overnight"   and  he tells his readers that "God is going to work on you your entire life." and " But there is a decision that starts the process."

He then quotes Romans 12:1a from the NIV.....
“I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice”
That's odd. No Jesus and instead we are being taught/told that we must make a decision to offer ourselves as a sacrifice to God.

But there's more.  There are some "Talk it Over" questions.

And again... no mention of Jesus.

" Why do you think it is sometimes difficult to let go of the things that stress us out?"

" What does it mean to repent? "

" What does it look like practically to offer yourself up to God?"

If the truth were to be told, we would hear about Jesus and how by believing upon him we could be saved from sin and death.

If his goal was to show you the Path... or the way to God, he would show you Jesus, Because Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.  Rick doesn't.

This webpage here neglects to tell people the truth about Jesus Christ.   It does however, tell you about being "transformed" as if you can do that on your own........ and you will probably need Rick's book to do it.

His book is not free though.... at the very least you will have to make a donation.

God's gift of salvation is.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Honorary Doctorate of Laws x 2

Christian Post (CP) reporter, Stoyan Zaimov reports that Rick and Kay Warren will each receive honorary degrees at Biola University's Spring 2014 Commencement to celebrating the couple's enbracing of "God's greater narrative."

Greater narrative?  Interesting choice of words.

What does "God's greater narrative" mean?

Is God simply narrating some sort of a story. or is he the very word itself?  Is there a "greater" narrative than the one already told of Jesus Christ?  Is the word of God in its simple form living, active, sharp and flawless or is it lifeless until you like an actor picking up a role, take the stage?

Christian Post reports:
"Kay Warren embodies a life of faith and courage, demonstrating what it means to fully embrace God's greater narrative... Her work for the global church and those suffering from HIV and AIDS across the world is a model of the kind of conviction and courage that Biola seeks to develop in all of our graduates."                Biola President Barry H. Corey.

“It’s a way of the university recognizing them as a significant contributor to the world or to the kingdom of God.”

Brian Shook, administrative director for the office of the president of Biola.
Which is it?  A contribution to the world... or to the kingdom of God?
And are we talking dominion-ism here?
What kind of doctorate will they both recieve?

According to the Biola CMIMES, Kay and Rick will be "graduating" with the Doctorate of Laws, one of several types of degrees.  "The Doctorate of Laws is based on a generic type of public service rather than something as specific as evangelical work."

This makes sense.  Rick and Kay have definitely  been doing generic public service and NOT evangelical work, (although they have done a great job of making it look "evangelical" to a lot of people.)

So, what is an "honorary doctorate?"

According to wisegeek.com, the idea of conferring honorary degrees on someone may cause considerable controversy.  Critics worry that the degree and the title of "doctor" could be used to mislead others about the recipient’s qualifications.   This is because while the honor recognizes some "achievement," it does not necessarily indicate the same level of knowledge expected of someone who has completed the university's traditional doctoral program. People are also concerned that the awarding of "honorary degrees" are often given with the motive of association to that particular person based on their notoriety and fame, or to secure large donations for the university if the person is wealthy.

In the case of the Warren's, they are both famous, and wealthy.  In fact, the money keeps rolling in as each new book, church campaign and resource or sermon they produce rolls off the press.  Sermons are not free.  People by them.  Attending church is not free either, you MUST, tithe.  Hmmm, wonder how much he gets for a speaking engagement?  When he gets important ones, what does he say neglect to say?

It might be rather "strategic" for the Warren's to attach Dr. to their names since they have mastered the art of promoting all things healthy.  There is church health and balance , (Purpose Driven Church)  sexual health, (HIV and AIDS) spiritual health, (Finding Purpose) personal physical health through diet and exercise, (via the Daniel Plan, and most recently, mental health, (The Gathering.)  Biola U. got it right in dubbing them "Dr. of Laws"  Lots of law comes out of Rick. His bottom line is not salvation, it's change and transformation.  You have to find your purpose and be just like Jesus.

Rick might encourage you to think like Jesus, feel like Jesus, be like Jesus and act like Jesus. He will even sell you all the tools he believes you need in order that you meet that end.  However, Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father, Son of the Promise, Son of God and Son of man.  You, no matter how hard you try, will never fulfill the law of God perfectly like Jesus.  You are not co-equal to God.... Jesus, and only Jesus, is.  The way to salvation is to believe on the ONE God sent... Jesus Christ... and recieve God's gift, forgiveness of your sin and eternal life... at least that is what the Bible says.

It is not by works of righteousness that I have done, but according to his mercy he has saved us.

Good... Better... Best

The "Good Life"

In 2006 Chuck Colson wrote "The Good Life, " It was forwarded by Rick Warren. The product description reads,"Colson shares real-life stories about people who define themselves by their positions and possessions vs. those who define themselves by their faith in God. You'll find new purpose and meaning for your own life." rick wrote his own article, The Secret For Living 'The Good Life in 2010. In it he said,
"So, what truly is the Good Life? It is the personal fulfillment and joy that come from being good and doing good. It is the result of discovering and becoming exactly what God created you to be. Nothing else will fill that void in your soul."

"Nothing else" Pastor Rick?  Just , being good and doing good?
What about knowing Jesus?  How did it happen that you failed to mention Him?

But rick has changed his mind.  Now, the "good life" isn't good enough....

Rick Warren apparently "believes everyone lives at one of three levels in life: Survival, Success and Significance."   Which would you choose for yourself?

Watch the video above as Pastor Warren explains how America is filled with people who are just getting by at the "Survival" level.... and says that  the "good life" isn't good enough.

"The "good life" isn't good enough.... we're made for more than the good life... we are made for the better life....which is a life moving from success to significance.... (one where) you know your purpose."
~Rick Warren
                                                                                                                      Oprah's Life Class Feb. 2013

Yes... it is time for the" Better Life"

"Unfortunately, what keeps us from grabbing hold of that better life is an irrational sense of self-sufficiency. We think we’re doing fine on our own."   ~Rick Warren
The Better Life by Rick Warren 12/23/2013, purposedriven.com

Rick told people that the better life could be obtained by stopping their irrational sense of self-sufficiency and inviting God into their lives as their power source. so that they could know their purpose.  To do this, it would requite inviting Jesus into their lives....making Jesus "the boss."

"Jesus is knocking at your door. Take hold of the better life by letting him into your life. Make him the boss of your life.  It’ll change everything."   ~Rick Warren

Rick Warren's Jesus doesn't save you from sin and death... but he did come to do three other things... to have your past forgiven, give you purpose, and to give you a home in heaven. He's a life coach too.

Rick's Jesus also fits well into the business executive mindset that Rick learned so well from masters of the   trade. His Jesus gives church leaders "God-sized" ambitions and  is all about changing-up the church and shaking down the status-quo....all this while continuously training his subjects to jump through hoops and run baseball diamonds so that they can purchase book after book after book.  Finally, after 2000 years of going nowhere, Rick's Jesus is giving Christians a  good, er.a.... better  life, and a hope for a peaceful world where all religions can simply "get along.".

Your Best Life

Recently, when the Son of God movie came to theaters Rick Warren teamed up with Joel Olsteen, a heretical "bible teacher" and author of a book called, Your Best Life Now.  (Listen to a sermon of Olsteen's here.)

This is really nothing new, for Olsteen and Warren preached the "good news" on Oprah's Life Class, years ago.  Now, with the big screen movie representation of the "Jesus" they embrace, these birds of a feather, are working hard to get people to flock to the movie theaters.  The movie with it's "new" generation Jesus and a slightly "different gospel" is a "must see" for the new generation" for this Jesus didn't come to preach the kingdom or die for sin.  He came, or so their Jesus says in the lightworkers' big screen movie, to "change the world," but that's not in the real "script" given to men by God to reveal to us who Jesus truly, truly is.

50 Days of Transformation

"Starting in January, thousands of churches across America will begin Pastor Rick’s new seven-week small group study, Transformed" Saddleback Church website.

Pastor Rick is being transformed, and promoting "transformation."  Instead of his typical "40 Days" of stuff, he has changed!  Now it is 50 Days!

(Wow, ten more days for the same price as 40!  What a deal!

He has changed his pastoral uniform too. Instead of his casual-styled Hawaiian shirt, he is pictured and preaches from the pulpit, wearing a black T-shirt.

Accroding to Rick Warren, it's the most important "spiritual growth" campaign he has ever done.  He says that he has been working on it for two years.

"Am I just like, walking down the street one day, and all of a sudden....ZAP! I am just transformed... and all of a sudden I am filled with love and I love everybody?  No, it doesn't work that way, it doesn't work that way at all." ~Rick Warren
Odd.... This is what transformed Paul on the way to Damascus when he encountered Jesus Christ. The book of Acts records that Paul was going to arrest followers of Jesus there with the intention of returning them to Jerusalem as prisoners for questioning and possible execution. His journey is interrupted when (ZAP!) Paul saw a blinding light, and communicated directly with a divine voice.... God's.  now, this may not be how is it for everyone, but how can Rick say that it doesn;t work this way at all?

Weird huh?

Listen carefully as Rick Warren attempts to transform your congregation.

"To put it another way, the ultimate goal of preaching is not information. In fact, giving people a greater knowledge of the Bible can cause pride to develop in our hearers rather than humility if that information isn't translated into obedience. And the goal if preaching is not merely instruction either."
~Rick Warren,
The Aim of Preaching Is Life Transformation by Rick Warren, pastors.com

He will take church people who should understand the gospel of grace through faith, into people who are always attempting to please God by their actions, not faith.  People who are perfectly obedient to the Bible, (that they  now purpose to  know nothing about because having all that information from the Bible might make them arrogant and full of pride.)

......" the result will be believers who are more obedient to the Bible, and we call obedient believers disciples."
~Rick Warren,

Your church will repent.  Their minds, beliefs and values will be changed,  Thanks to Rick and his new campaign they will experience a total change in thinking,,,, the ultimate "paradigm shift."

"Repentance is changing minds at the deepest level - the level of beliefs & values. We preach to produce the ultimate paradigm shift for people – the very transformation of their lives."
~Rick Warren,
The Aim of Preaching Is Life Transformation by Rick Warren, pastors.com

HOW ON EARTH DOES THIS HAPPEN TO A CHURCH?

First you bribe people whoneed no experience and likely know little or nothing about what it is that they will be facilitating to host groups.  You do this by offering FREE materials to them, materials that usually cost more than just a couple bucks.  Everyone else pays to participate.  then you teach all the people in their group via video.

"AS A HOST, YOU’LL RECEIVE THE ENTIRE KIT FREE:
The leatherette Life Journals, the seven DVD lessons, and all the other life-changing materials for your group."

Then you apply intimidation....

"If you don’t form a 50 Day group, I’m certain you’ll later regret missing out on what God intended to bless you with."
~Rick Warren,
Rick’s January 17th, 2014 newsletter to Saddleback attendees:

And you replace the Bible that they used to hold in their hands with material you created, books, workbooks, whatever..... even a "transformation app!"

You train them not to think  independently from the group.

"Transform yourself and your life group with the Transform Me and the Transform My Group Apps Available through iTunes and Google play."
