Revisiting the Rick Warren P.E.A.C.E. Plan

“The Peace Plan’s not new or different than traditional missions. The difference is not so much in what is done, but rather both how it is done and who does it.”
 What makes the Peace plan so different?  purposedriven.com; 2005

This is the kind of double talk Rick Warren uses on those who will listen to him.  But, who is he kidding when he says that the PEACE Plan is nothing "NEW" or different... and then inserts the notion that is is something completely NEW... and different?  Note how, after saying it is nothing new or different, he says that  the difference is.... both what is done, and how it is done... and who does it.

“You may have already heard about the PEACE Plan we're developing...It is a local church-based paradigm for missions in the 21st century, and we believe God will use it to bring worldwide revival.”
The task before us is enormous, but God is equipping us by Rick Warren

The Rick Warren PURPOSE DRIVEN PEACE PLAN is a local church based paradigm.... note that word, if you will.  HE tells us that it is something "We " (meaning Rick and his partners in this plan) are developing... (who is this "WE"... certainly it is not Rick all by himself) We are also taold that he believes God will use to bring, not just revival, but worldwide revival.

A few questions:
    HE uses the tern "Local church."  "Local church" means... what?  Does it mean the local church, whatever denomination or doctrine that neighborhood entity holds?  Does it have to be a Christian Church or is it any "church" of any denomination or doctrine?
     When he says, "God," who (or what "God" ) does he mean?  Presumably, he means Jesus Christ of the Bible....but he is not specific.... and he insists that this PEACE PLAN being developed by his "WE" will bring "revival."  Revival of what?

“You’ve heard me say many times that the greatest thing you can do with your life is tell somebody about Jesus … if you help somebody secure their eternal destiny, that they spend the rest of their life in Heaven not Hell …your life counts, your life matters because nothing matters more than helping get a person and their eternal destiny settled. They will be forever eternally grateful….And I’ve always said that that was the greatest thing you can do with your life.... I was wrong. ”
 Sunday Sermon at Saddleback Church, 11/2003  Rick Warren announces Global Peace Plan

It was at the unveiling of the Peace Plan, when Rick made the above confession of being "wrong" to his congregation....apparently it was something that he was "wrong about for the last twenty-five years.  He told the people in his  Saddleback church audiences that he used to believe  "the greatest thing a person could do was lead another person to faith in Christ"....but he "was wrong." He had a "change of mind"... (which he says, is that Greek word, "metanioa." that often gets misunderstood as "repentance.")
After confessing he was "wrong," (or rather, that he had changed his mind, (aka "repented").... in front of the congregation...  told them that he had been wrong,..... for so long, Warren also told his congregation that he now believes, (correctly?) that "the greatest thing a person can do is build a church."  Then he unveiled the 'PEACE PLAN"

In more recent years, this is what the Rick Warren "P.E.A.C.E. Plan" looks like:

 DISCOVER THE PEACE PLAN
from http://www.thepeaceplan.com/   (4/14/10)
Promote Reconciliation
Equip Servant Leaders
Assist The Poor
Care For The Sick
Educate The Next Generation

The vision behind the PEACE Plan is to mobilize
Christians everywhere to address the world's
5 GIANT PROBLEMS
1) Spiritual Emptiness;
 2) Corrupt  Leadership;
3) Extreme Poverty;
4) Pandemic Disease;
and
5) Rampant Illiteracy.
Each letter of PEACE is distinct
and works with the others as a "wholistic" unit.

_______________________________________________
Spiritual Emptiness.... reconciliation.....  nice sounding "Christian" kind of words, but non-Christians are not simply "spiritually empty" needing to be filled with a sense of community, or a good Rick Warren book from the New York Bestsellers list... no, they need Jesus Christ.  This is because they are dead in their trespasses and sins without Christ.  The generic term "spiritually empty or even spiritually lost" (in a day and age when "spiritual" can mean any spirit, holy or not), needs to be understood in light of Christ.  Since Rick no longer believes... what he was wrong about for twenty five years... what kind of spiritual emptiness is he talking about?

IS he talking about Christians who feel this way or about non-Christians, when he talks about people being "spiritually empty?" More specifically, what will this "spiritual emptiness" he speaks about be filled with, if not the very thing he declares that he was wrong about (JEsus Christ) for so long?

And more importantly.... what is this  corrupt leadership he is talking about?  Is he talking about corrupt leadership in the world or in the church? Any who is it that Christians follow anyhow?  Certainly Jesus Christ, is not corrupt.

And in eradicating the evil giant of corrupt leadership.... Rick wants to be the one to equip "leaders" who want to serve... Serve who?   Jesus Christ?  Or is it those who want to make a name for themselves and serve the world?

And what does this term "equip servant leaders" term? At first he was quite open in saying that he wanted to oust all those ungodly, unschooled pastors who never went to seminary from their pulpits.... but now he says he just wants to equip  what he calls "servant leaders".... with purpose and passion for serving in world missions that (he says) are not new or different than traditional missions, but different.... in what is done, how it is done and who does it.....

“The Peace Plan’s not new or different than traditional missions. The difference is not so much in what is done, but rather both how it is done and who does it.”

 In other words, it is not the same at all, he just hopes you will believe him when he tells you it is two different things at the same time.

Want a PEACE Plan that is real and right and good and true... and noble?  JEsus did give us who believe, PEACE....real and lasting peace... and he told us to go unto all the nations, unto all the world and preach the good news....  That he is risen from the dead....just as he said and our sins will be forgiven if we believe.  This is God's PEACE Plan.. true reconciliation.... and there is only one way to enter in....
.
 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.. you and your household. " The apostles told people...(Acts 16:31)  But Rick Warren seems to have given up on that, and now he is developing a PEACE Plan.

Jesus' peace, is true reconciliation with both man to man and man to God... and best of all it is pure, peace-loving and true, right and good.  It is directed by all Jesus said and did and this to is from the  Father, recorded for us in the Bible.  Best of all it is one that God is using... even today....

John 14:27
Jesus speaking: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful."
